The International
Scout was created as a direct competitor to the Jeep but was also
the first purpose built "Sport Utility Vehicle". Unlike the
Jeep that originally designed as a military off road vehicle, the
Scout was meant to fill multiple roles and could be ordered in
various versions, both 2 and 4 wheel drive.
